In the name of God Amen I William Williams of the parish of Goytrey in the County of Monmouth labourer being in health of body and of sound mind memory and understanding , praised be God for the same, do make this my last will and testament in manner and form following. I give devise and bequeath unto my loving grandson and grandaughter Joseph Lewis and Mary Lewis all my money, securities for money goods chattels and effects of what nature or kind so ever and wheresoever the same may be at the time of my death. And I do nominate constitute and appoint the said Joseph Lewis and Mary Lewis executor and executrix of this my last will and testament hereby revoking and making void all and every other will or wills at any time heretofore by me made and do declare this to be my last will and testament. And       lastly made Oath that the said deceased did not die possessed of any Leasehold Estate or Estates for years, either absolute or determinable, on a life or lives to the best of this Deponent’s knowledge, information and belief. Know all me by these presents that we   Henry Moses     of the parish of Bassalleg  in the County of   Monmouth farmer, James Watkins of the parish of Lanvihangel Crucorney in the aforesaid County farmer and Thomas Locke of Llandaff in the County of Glamorgan innkeeper       are held and firmly bound unto the Right Reverend Father in God Edward   by divine permission Lord Bishop of   Llandaff     in the sum of two hundred         pounds of good and lawful money of Great Britain to be paid unto the said Lord Bishop or to his certain attorney his executors administrators or assigns to which payment well and truly to be made. We oblige ourselves and each of us by himself for the whole our and each of our heirs executors and administrators firmly by these presents. Sealed with our seals dated   twentieth   day of June in the third     year of the Reign of our Sovereign   Lord William the fourth       by the Grace of God of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland   King     Defender of the Faith &c and in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty three

The Condition of this obligation is such that if the above bounden Henry Moses the lawful brother one of the next of kin and       administrator     of all and singular the goods chattels and credits of William Moses   late of Goytrey in the aforesaid County bachelor       deceased do make or cause to be made a true and perfect inventory of all and singular the goods chattels and credits of the said deceased which have or shall come to the hands possession or knowledge of   him   the said   Henry Moses     or into the hands and possession of any other person or persons for him and the same so made do exhibit or cause to be exhibited in the Registry of the Consistory Court of Llandaff   on or before last day of December         next ensuing and the same goods chattels and credits and all other the goods chattels and credits of the said deceased do well and faithfully administer according to law, that is to say, do pay the debts of the said deceased which     did owe at his     death and then the legacies contained and specified in the said Will annexed to the said Letters of Administration so to be committed as far as   his     goods chattels and credits will thereto extend and the law charge     and further do make or cause to be made a true and just accompt of his     said administration when   he     shall be thereunto lawfully required. And all the rest and reside of the said goods chattels and credits which shall be found remaining upon the said administrat accompt and not otherwise disposed of in the said Will the same being first examined and allowed of by the Judge or Judges of the said Court for the time being shall distribute and pay in such manner and form as shall be limited by the direction of the said Judge. And lastly do at all times hereafter clearly acquit discharge and save harmless the within named Lord Bishop the said Judge and all other officers of the said Court against all persons having or pretending to have any right title or interest in the goods chattels and credits of the said deceased then this obligation to be void or else to remain in full force and virtue.   Henry Moses; James Watkins; Thomas Locke

William Lewis 1831

William Lewis – Goytrey

In the name of God Amen. I William Lewis of the parish of Goytrey in the county of Monmouth, labourer being sick in body but of sound and disposing mind, memory and understanding, do make, publish and declare this my last will and testament in manner and form following (that is to say:)

First I give, devise and bequeath unto Elizabeth my loveing wife all my household property in the parish of Mamhilad in the said county of Monmouth for and during her natural life. And immediately after her decease I give, devise and bequeath the same premises unto my loving son William Lewis his heir and assigns.

Also I give, devise and bequeath unto my loving wife Elizabeth Lewis all those leasehold premises called or known by the name of Gwernog Vach wherein I now dwell, together with lands known by the name of Cae Sannah, for and during the term of his natural life.

And from and after her decease I give, devise and bequeath the same premises and lands unto my loving son John Lewis, subject to the payment of twenty pounds namely to my daughter Ann Williams five pounds.

To my daughter Martha Jarrett five pounds. To my daughter Mary Lewis five pounds. To my daughter Sarah Lewis five pounds.

The first payment to be made to my daughter Sarah Lewis at the apparition of one year after my decease. The next payment to my daughter Mary Lewis at the apparition of the second year. The third payment to my daughter Martha Jarrett at the apparition of the fourth year.

Also I give my household furniture after the decease of my loving wife between John and two daughters Mary and Sarah to be divided equally between them.

And I do nominate and appoint my loving wife Elizabeth and son John joint executors and executrix of this my last will and testament herby revoking and making void all other will or wills by me made, ratifying and confirming this my last will and testament.

I give devise & bequeath to my loving wife Ann Edwards all that messuage and lands now in my possession situate in the said parish of and her children for and during the remainder of the lease under which I enjoy the same.

I give and bequeath to my loving kinswoman Mary Williams a large square table and a bedstead and to accomodated with house room in my said dwelling house during her life.

As to all the residue of my goods chattels & effects of what nature or kind soever or wheresoever the same may be at the time of my death I give and bequeath to my said wife Ann Edwards whom I appoint sole executrix of this my last will and testament hereby revoking and making void all former will or wills by me at any time heretofore made ratifying & confirming this only to be my last will and testament.

This is the last will and testament of me, Rachel Thomas of the parish of Goytre in the county of Monmouth, spinster.

I give and bequeath all my personal estate, effects and property of what nature or kind soever and wheresoever and of which I may happen to die, posses interested in or in any wise entitled to, subject to the payment of my just debts and funeral and testimony expenses unto and to the use of my niece Rachel Anthony now residing in the service of Ferdinand Hanbury Williams esquire of Coldbrook Park, her executors, administrators and assigns absolutely. In the name of God Amen. I Thomas Jenkins of the parish of Goytrey in the County of Monmouth farmer, being weak in body but of sound mind, memory and understanding praise be God for the same so make this my last will and testament in maner and form following, that is to say:

I give, devise and bequeath unto my loving wife Ruth Jenkins all my goods, chattels and effects of what nature or kind soever or wheresoever the same may be at the time of my death for the term of her natural life. And from and after her decease I give and bequeath the same to be equally divided equally between my children share and share alike.

I appoint James Gwatkin of Pentwyn House to be trustee and executor of this my last will and testament hereby revoking And making void all former will or wills by me at any time heretofore made, ratifying and confirming this to be my last will and testament.

I give and bequeath unto my granddaughter Mary Harris seven Pounds.

I give and bequeath to my granddaughter Margaret Morgan seven pounds and the dresser and shelves.

In the name of God Amen. I William Lewis of Berlanth Dowyleth in the parish of Goytra the County of Monmouth, farmer being weak in body but of sound memory, mind and understanding, praised be to God for the same do make this my last will and testament in maner and form following.

I do give and devise to my nephew Charles Lewis labourer liveing now in the hamlet of Glascoed in the said County all the farm, land, house and all the oute buildings and all apertencis that is on the premecis (all by the name of Berlanth Dowyleth) in the parish of Goytra in the said County for his heirs and assigns forever.

I also give and bequeth nephew Charles Lewis all the household goods, live and dead stock and implements of husbandry after my decease and for his own use and benefit.

I also give and devise to my nephew John Lewis of the parish of Goytra all that messuage, farm and land which I bought, situate in the parish of Llanvrechva in the said County, all the land, house barn and all the outbuildings that is on the premecis after my desces which is now in the occupation of John Edward as tenant, to hold unto the said John Lewis with the appurtenances his heirs and assigns forever.

I allso do give and devise to my nephew Charles Lewis, his eldest son William Lewis, I do give all that messuage, farm and lands situate in the parish of Lanthewye Vak in the said County, the land, the house, the barn and all the oute buildings that is on the premecis now in the occupation of William Morgan as tenant, to hold onto the said William Lewis with its appurtenances, the son of Charles Lewis at the age of 21 years then for his heirs and assigns forever.

All the rest, residue and remainder of my personal estate and effects of what natur or kind soever and wheresoever which I shall die possessed of I give and bequeath unto my said nephew Charles Lewis for his own use and benefit and I appoint him, the said John Lewis to sole executor.

In witness whereof I have to this my last will and set my hand and seal this seventeenth day of June the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty one.
