Roger Cadogan
In the name of God Amen I Roger Cadogan the elder of the parish of Goytre in the County of Monmouth gent., being sick and weak in body but of good and perfect memory thanks be to Almighty God doe make and ordayne this my Will and Testament in writing in manner and form following [that is to say]
Ffirst I committ my soule into the hands of Almighty God my maker and Jesus Christ my saviour and redeemer and my body to the grave to be buryd in Christian burial and as for my wordly estate I dispose thereof as followeth:
Imprimis: I give, devise and bequeath unto Henry my son the sum of five and forty pounds of lawfull money of Grate Brittain:
Item: I give devise and bequeath unto my granddaughter Anne Cadogan daughter of the said Henry the sume of five pounds of like lawfull money to be payed by my son Roger Cadogan the younger out of my messuages lands and tenements lying and being in Goytre aforesaid, and my will and meaning is that the sume of six pounds ye amount be ? and payed out of the same unto Mary my wife for and during the terme of her natural life, and my further will and meaning is that the said sume of five and forty pounds be not ? and payed by my said son Roger untill one whole year after the decease of the said Mary my wife and from and after the severall payments aforesaid:
I give devise and bequeath the same unto the said Roger his heirs and assigns forever.
Item: I give devise and bequeath unto the said Roger one feather bed with it’s appurtenances, one brass kettle and the great table in the hall and one great coffer and so for the rest and residue of all my goods and chattels whatsoever, I give, devise and bequeath the same unto the said Mary my wife whom I nominate and appoint sole executrix of this my will, revoking and annulling all forever and other wills by me made.
In witness whereof I the said Roger Cadogan the elder have hereunto set my hand and seal this nine and twentyeth day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and one.
